Our Mission
The AAGS mission is to support the professional development of students at all levels studying or working in Anthropology. We host speakers, organize colloquia and department events, and facilitate communication between anthropology students and faculty on issues affecting the graduate program, including curriculum, degree requirements, and funding.
What We Do
Meets bi-monthly during academic year with all anthropology graduate students.
Organizes a year-long colloquia series comprised of student and faculty speakers from the University of Oregon.
Organizes and funds guest speakers from outside the University of Oregon community.
Supports the professional development of fellow students by providing information about funding opportunities (including past proposals), tips on teaching effectiveness, and constructive criticism on current research, publications, and presentations.
Maintains a voice in departmental policy through communication with faculty members and the Director of Graduate Studies.
Represents students at Anthropology Department faculty meetings and the distribute minutes from those meetings.
Represents and participates in the Graduate Teaching Fellows Federation (GTFF) labor union.
Who We Are
AAGS is open to any interested University of Oregon student. However, to date our membership is made up exclusively of current graduate students in the department of anthropology at the University of Oregon. AAGS is lead by a number of elected officers.
