Math and Writing Labs

Academic Learning Services provides math and writing labs with free tutors. All tutors must demonstrate academic excellence by having a high GPA and two faculty recommendations that attest to both subject knowledge and ability to tutor specific courses.

Math Lab
9:00am - 4:00pm, Monday – Friday, 72 PLC (Prince Lucien Campbell).  The Math Lab begins week two of the term through the Wednesday of finals week. Free tutors are available. Math Lab tutors cover through Math 253 and are available on a drop-in basis.

    Writing Lab
    9:00am – 5:00pm, Monday – Friday, 72 PLC (Prince Lucien Campbell).  The Writing Lab begins week two of the term and closes at 5:00pm the Wednesday of finals week.  Free tutors are available. Upper-division undergraduate and graduate student tutors are available on a drop-in basis or by appointment.  (You must come to the writing lab to schedule your appointment.)

    The Writing Lab offers University of Oregon students support for any course, any writing concern, and any stage of the writing process. Our goal is to help you develop your ideas, express yourself clearly, and meet the expectations of academic writing.
    • We work collaboratively by asking questions and responding as readers. We're writing coaches, but not editors.
    • We hold short, focused sessions (20-30 minutes) to offer feedback that will allow you to take the next step.
    • We are more interested in your long-term development as a writer than in perfectly edited papers.

    The Grammar Hour Workshop also provides assistance with improving grammatical skill.
