Creating an Audio Version of a Document


The following are very basic tips on recording a document to tape.

  1. Read the document onto a standard cassette tape.
  2. Work in an evironment free from background noise and interuptions.
  3. Announce the beginning of the tape and the title of the document.
  4. Read aloud naturally without drama or affect.
  5. Spell unfamiliar words and proper names the first time they appear in the text.
  6. Read the meaning of an abbreviation rather than the abbreviation itself.
  7. Briefly describe images, graphics, tables and charts.
  8. Announce the end of the tape
  9. Label tape accordingly (either with braille or large print).
