Folklore Certificate Program
**The Certificate program requires a minimum of 32 credits. **
1.) Folklore Core Courses – 12 credits (3 courses)
- ENG 250 , Introduction to Folklore – 4 credits
Plus 2 courses, chosen from the following:
- ENG 255, Folklore and US Popular Culture – 4 credits
- AAD 250, Art and Human Values – 4 credits
- ANTH 161, World Cultures – 4 credits
With the approval of their Folklore Certificate Advisor, students may substitute other courses to fulfill this requirement.
2.) Approved Electives – 20 credits (All courses listed are 4 credits)
**One course must include fieldwork.
- FLR 399, African Folklore
- FLR 399, Folklore and Sexuality
- FLR 407, Public Folklore
- FLR 410, Folklore and Gender
- FLR 410, Folklore and the Supernatural
- FLR 411, Folklore and Religion
- FLR 412, Folklore of the Subcultures
- FLR 413, Folk Art and Material Culture
- FLR 483, Folklore and Mythology of the British Isles
- FLR 485, Film and Folklore
- ENG 484, American Folklore
With the approval of their Folklore Certificate advisor, students may substitute folklore-related courses from other departments to fulfill this requirement, including classes from . . . Anthropology, Architecture, Arts & Administrations, Asian Studies, Classics, Dance, East Asian Language & Literature, English, Ethnic Studies, Geography, German Studies, History, Historic Preservation, International Studies, Japanese Studies, Journalism and Communication, Judaic Studies, Landscape Architecture, Music, Religious Studies, Romance Languages, Scandinavian Studies, Sociology, Theatre Arts, Women's & Gender Studies
