Color is one of the key factors that affect people's choice food. We always like red, bloody beef and fresh green vegetables. Therefore, lighting design in supermarkets and grocery stores plays a very important role in making food attractive to customers.

However, there is no single method used to make food "look" good. Different stores have different strategies. In some supermarkets, they use florescent lamps to illuminate vegetables while others use MR-16's lamps to light up the same item. Under different lighting, a tomato in one store may look fresher and more delicious than it does in another store. Lighting seriously shapes our perception of food.

With the lighting techniques we have learned from ECS, we want to use this term project to examine how different lamps affect a person's perception of food. We want to find out the best match of food and light. With this information, you may think twice about what lamps you have in your kitchen and dining room. A simple change to your lamps may make your food look better!
