- This case study will compare two totally different luminous conditions within the Reading Room of the AAA Library, located on the second floor of Lawrence Hall. During the daylight hours, the study room is well lit and adequately controllable. Horizontal blinds are hung on every window within the space that may be adjusted to the user's specifications. However, The evening environment is more constricting because of the lack of user controls. The space transforms into a darker room that is less suitable for reading, research and book finding.
- There are four pendant luminaires hanging 14 feet above the finished floor, each with one metal halide lamp. The light discharge from the lamps are indirect and produce a reflected, diffused ambient atmosphere. Because of the indirect nature of these luminaires, the study space seems to be lacking sufficient direct light.
