Our research agenda continues to focus on understanding sediment production, transport, and erosion using field, experimental, and numerical investigations, although we're always open-minded to new directions dictated by student interest. In addition, our group members have outlined a number of unexplored ideas (i.e., pet projects) that could make for compelling thesis topics.

Student funding is generally obtained via graduate teaching fellowships (GTF) offered to the top applicants. As thesis projects materialize (generally after 1-2 years), funding via graduate research fellowships often becomes available depending on the status of research grants.

Graduate students in the Department of Geological Sciences tend to work hard despite the abundance of natural and cultural distractions in the beautiful, cosmopolitan college town of Eugene in western Oregon.

Our research lab includes an abundance of computational, field, and laboratory resources for diverse projects. Previous thesis projects often involve collaboration with faculty in our department and elsewhere.
