"Mostly Dance" Events Calendar
Information Sources
Here are some of the information sources I use to compile the
"Mostly Dance" calendar:
Eugene
- EugeneSwing,
a Yahoo Groups list for Eugene East Coast swingers and Lindy Hoppers --
you don't have to sign up to read postings.
- ELLA - Eugene Swing and Lindy Hop:
sponsors swing dance lessons and dancing on Wednesday nights in Eugene.
- The Joint is Jumpin',
with dances and Lindy Hop workshops.
- EugeneSalsa.com, with
everything you need to know about salsa dancing in Eugene.
- the
Eugene Argentine tango
Web page, where you can sign up for the
eTango
e-mail list.
- Eugene Swing Dance Club
(that's West Coast swing), an active group in Eugene.
- OBDC Web site, with weekly
dances at UO and a nice
calendar.
- Eugene
USABDA chapter.
- Mike Meyer's WhistleStop
lists folk music and dance events.
- Luna is a cool jazz (etc.) club
in Eugene; see the online schedule.
- The Eugene Weekly's
Calendar
lists lots of dance and non-dance events.
- Larry Robbins' home page?
- Willamette Valley Lindy Hop News (wherever it ends up).
- There are a plethora of cool cultural events that happen at and through
the University of Oregon. I simply don't have time to replicate the
campus calendar here.
- Here is a nexus
of UO calendar links.
- The UO student newspaper, the
Oregon Daily Emerald,
has an active Entertainment Calendar page, but it's a little hard
to find. Go to their home
page, mouse over the down-arrow next to Pulse in the navigation
bar, click on Excite in the menu that pulls down, and scroll down
the Excite page until you can see and click on the "Entertainment
Calendar" link. I'm not sure why they bury it so deeply. I found
a short cut
to the Pulse:Excite page, which will save you some extra clicks;
follow that and then click "Entertainment Calendar". It's a packed
calendar, well worth chasing down.
- The Tango Center in Eugene is
a remarkable collaborative tango project and dance venue.
- The Eugene Folklore Society,
which sponsors great music and dance events including bi-monthly
contra dances and lots more.
- The Oregon Music Guide Calendar.
- The West Coast Rhythm Kings page.
- The Vipers page.
Corvallis
- OSUdancers,
a Yahoo Groups list for OSU and Corvallis swing dancers and Lindy
Hoppers. You have to sign up to read archived postings.
- OSU Ballroom
Dance Club, an active group with practice on Wednesdays and dances
on Fridays during the academic year. They have an e-mail list, which
Trina Siebert uses to keep everyone informed of Corvallis and
Willamette Valley dance events.
- Barry Chen at OSU has started a prettier Web-based calendar of dance
events. See it here.
- Cool Shoes,
OSU's ballroom dance performance troupe.
- Lakepark Entertainment Center, with dancing on Monday nights.
- The Corvallis Folklore Society, which sponsors great music
and dance events including bi-monthly contra dances and the occasional swing or zydeco dance.
Portland
- SwingOut.net, home of two
Portland swing e-mail lists and other useful resources like
this calendar. If you
are interested in Portland swing dance events, you should
sign up for the TWS list
for a weekly summary of Portland swing events in your mailbox every
Monday afternoon.
- Here is another swing
calendar in Portland, pretty cool technology under this one but it's
a bit slow. Thanks to Kristin for
the link.
- The Viscount Ballroom,
my favorite place for social dancing in Portland. I'd be there Monday,
Tuesday, Friday, and maybe Saturday nights every week if I lived in Portland.
- More great dancing at Nocturnal.
I'd be there Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday nights if I lived in Portland.
- Check out the schedule at Paradise
Place Studio of Arts and Dance. Looks like fun all week long!
- Portlanders find out about local music and dance events by consulting Willamette Week's
events calendar.
- The Temple Ballroom,
which is closed for remodeling these days.
- The Crystal
Ballroom has the nicest dance floor I know of, but it is rarely
used for dancing.
- Keith Hazleton's hazletok.com:
swing dance teaching, workshops, and special events. Home of the
Cherry Pop-Tart Daddy himself.
- Erik Kilk's Review of Swing Dancing
in Portland is a nice overview of the best places to swing in
"Bridgetown".
- Bill Alsup's Portland Area Argentine Tango page.
- Erik and Caroline's
FolkNews page lists
Portland-area folk dance and music events.
- DancePortland.com has a list
of places to go dancing in Portland; non-partner dances included.
Seattle
- The Century Ballroom is my favorite place to dance
in Seattle. I'd be there three or four nights a week if I lived in Seattle.
- All Seattle Tango, information about Argentine tango in
Seattle: events, dances, classes, workshops . . .
- The Savoy Swing Club,
a great bunch of Lindy Hoppers.
- More swing news at Swingdancers.com.
- The Seattle Lindy Exchange.
- Swing Out NorthWest,
a holiday swingfest for those who would rather dance than sleep.
- The home of Hep Jen: dancer, teacher, DJ,
choreographer, and the most awesome bundle of energy to ever hit the dance floor.
wider world
- LindyExchange.com, with
links to dozens of Lindy Exchange Web sites.
- Yehoodi has Lindy Hop information
for an international audience.
- Swing Out Of Town has a
calendar of Lindy Hop events for those who like to travel.
