Christina Geierman, MS 2007

Research Interests:My interests include larval & juvenile ecology, biomechanics of suspension feeding, and mechanical limits to larval dispersal. My thesis was on how the feeding leg anatomy, feeding behavior, and leakiness of the feeding fan differ between three sizes of barnacles. I also looked at how these traits differ between three common species of intertidal barnacle.

Thesis: "Intraspecific and Interspecific Differences in Acorn Barnacle Feeding Over Growth"

Advisor: Dr. Richard Emlet

Current Occupation: I am currently employed by Southwestern Community College as a part time instructor in the biology department (human genetics, introductory biology, marine biology). I hope to begin a PhD program fall 2009.

About GK-12: I spent two years teaching kindergarten and first grade science in the Coos Bay Public Schools. It was a great experience, I learned a lot, and I’m a lot more confident about teaching as a result of this program.
