All testing results are kept strictly confidential to the Treatment Team. Body composition testing (7 site skinfold) should only be performed by the sports nutritionist. Under no circumstances should any body composition testing be performed on athletes other than football and wrestlers by trainers, coaches or outside of the university resources unless agreed upon by the treatment team.
  • Weight and even body composition can NOT accurately predict athletic performance or the potential for success. It can, when done in a confedential, professional and accurate manner give an athlete valuable information that may enhance training and performance.

  • Accurate body composition assessments can help prevent injury and identify possible health related risks that can undermine athletic performance.

  • Body composition testing is most useful to help you acheieve a level of muscle mass that optimizes your sport specific performance needs.

To get your body composition assessment
  • Call for an appointment (346-5580)
  • Wear or bring shorts (men) and sports bra (women)
  • Assessment, calculations and discussion take 30 min.
  • Testing will not be performed more than one time every 6 weeks unless medically neccessary and pending Team Physican recommendations.
  • Results are strictly confidential.

FYI -- Too low body fat level can:
  • indicate an increased risk for osteoporosis
  • lead to increased risk for stress fractures and joint injury
  • cause amenorrhea (loss of normal and healthy menstrual cycles)
  • lead to variable and unpredictable athletic performance
  • lead to loss of lean muscle mass which = power and strength.
FYI -- Too high body fat level can:
  • decrease athletic performance
  • increase risk of injury
  • indicate low levels of lean tissue in those with healthy body weights
