An Interdisciplinary Organization of Graduate Students
and Faculty at the University of Oregon Dedicated to the Study of Literature,
Culture, and Environment
Mesa Verde is a diverse and eclectic group. For example, over the last couple of years we have read and discussed a variety of works including E. O. Wilson's Biophilia, Octavia Butler's Kindred, Neal Stephenson's Zodiac: An Eco-thriller, Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian and Edward Said's Culture and Imperialism. Our colloquiums have included presentations by scholars such as John Bellamy Foster (Marx's Ecology) and Mark Johnson (Philosophy in the Flesh) as well as faculty and graduate student "papers in progress." Outdoor activities have included camping trips to Waldo Lake and Metolius River as well as winter retreats to Odell Lake.
