OUT/LOUD to Electrify the Eugene Queer Music Scene in April

April 11, 2007

The stage has been set; the performers are waiting in the wings. This year's show is going to be bigger and better than it's ever been in the storied tradition that is OUT/LOUD: the biggest queer women's music festival in the northwest.

This event has evolved from its humble beginnings as Lesbopalooza in the early 2000s, into the all-encompassing entertainment smorgasbord on the EMU East Lawn last year.

This year, the ASUO Women's Center promises to get your blood pumping to the rhythm of the music and to push the octane level even further because we've got two shows and a smattering of activities lined up within a span of three weeks.

With electrifying hip hop vocals and a big attitude to boot, God-des & She jets into Eugene from New York to headline OUT/LOUD, a one-night only event on Friday, April 27.

The chart-climbing rap duo has performed on the season finale of The L Word, and has their own TV show on queer cable channel LOGO. They come into Eugene fresh off a performance at The Dinah Shore weekend, the biggest all-women-only celebration in the world, and will also play at the Michigan Women's Music Festival in August.

OUT/LOUD will also feature northwest crowd-favorites Sistas in the Pit, Sophe Lux and Eugene-based rock band The Ovulators.

Then, on May 11, we'll bring the crowds back for more with OUT/LOUD: Redux at Agate Hall on the University of Oregon campus.

This time the focus shifts from the gritty notes of rock and hip hop to the punk flavor of Velvet Trap, and the politically infused verse of Alix Olson, a feisty, critically acclaimed musician and spoken word poet who has been a major icon on the national queer women's music landscape for the last decade.

With two concerts in three weeks and a girls' bar night in between (at The Wetlands Brew Pub on May 5) our goal is to make Eugene, Ore. the place for queer women to meet and mingle.

To encourage that, we've waived the admission fee to both OUT/LOUD and OUT/LOUD Redux to make the concerts more accessible to everyone. Now, you can come and see God-des and She perform without the hefty $30 price tag that hundreds of queer women put out at the Dinah Shore weekend in Palm Springs two weeks ago.

With national award-winning talent coming to play at two free shows, Eugene is well on its way to becoming Queer Women's Central, USA this month.
