Prior to expansion in 1992, the Knight Library consisted of three parts:
- 1937 building 80,000 square feet
- 1950 addition 57,000 square feet
- 1966 addition 100,000 square feet
Since the 1966 addition, collections and enrollment had grown by more than 40 percent and physical facilities were inadequate. New information technologies demanded a much more flexible data cabling system than was envisioned in the 1960s. These needs were addressed by the addition of 135,000 square feet of new space and significant renovation of the existing facility.
