Kane Kim ’07

Kane Kim Hometown: Los Angeles, California.

Majors: Biology and Sociology.

Minor: Anthropology.

Transferred from: Special biomedical program offered through UCLA and UC–Riverside.

Why the UO: I was drawn to the environment in the Northwest. I wanted to stay on the West Coast and really liked the open-minded mentality that I found here.

Why sociology and biology: Growing up in the inner city, education was preached as an outlet; a way out. So, I want to do something to help out my community, and I want to understand social dynamics.

Favorite class: I enjoyed all my sociology classes, and really liked being a part of the honors program.

Study spot on campus: The library.

Best Eugene food find: Taco Time! They don’t have them in L.A. I even took some home on the airplane once.

Best book he’s read at the UO: Forever Foreigners or Honorary Whites? by UO associate professor Mia Tuan.

Best advice for freshmen: Take part in anything and everything you can. Too many people put themselves in a box before they know who they are, so try everything.
