Joelynn Sinclear ’06

Joelynn Sinclear Hometown: Dorris, California.

Major: Fiber Arts.

Minor: Anthropology.

Transferred from: Central Oregon Community College and Southern Oregon University.

Why the UO: When I came here and took a tour around the university and so forth, I was awestruck.

Why fiber arts: I have been an artist all my life. I just had never realized that all these crafts and arts could be taken so seriously at a high level here. When I realized there was an actual fibers and textiles area of the school, my jaw dropped.

My favorite course: Absolutely the textile printing class. There are multiple people from the theater department, from photography, and you get this hodgepodge of people who share so many ideas and come up with so many creative applications. I also traveled to Florence, Italy, to study jacquard weaving under the Lisio Foundation.

Study spot on campus: AAA Library.

Essential morning beverage: Protein drink.

Guilty pleasure: Sweet Life Bakery.

Faculty mentor: I truly feel that Associate Professor Barbara Setsu Pickett is a fabulous teacher for multiple reasons. She does more than just help you with simple school goals. She asks more of you, thus bringing a higher success to school assignments, but most importantly to your personal goals. Barbara is a master at this and truly allowed me to be all that I could be and more.

Advice for incoming students: Go outside the box. Literally go to each school on campus and see what else is out there.
