Anatomy of a business

Enterprising senior finds success in Lundquist College of Business

Quillyn Brown

Quillyn Brown broadened her perspective when she narrowed her focus.

“I knew I loved business, and I came to the University of Oregon specifically for that,” says the senior from Brookings, Oregon.

Undergraduates in the UO’s Lundquist College of Business can major in business administration and choose one of several concentrations, including entrepreneurship or finance.

“My concentration on entrepreneurship has helped me understand a wide variety of concepts. Entrepreneurs have to know about everything in a business; they have to understand how it all comes together.”

Quillyn says someday she wants to own multiple small businesses. However, for a more immediate payoff in a tight job market, she recently changed her major from business administration to accounting. And last summer, she helped refine a system to improve efficiency for a manufacturing company in Portland.

Every experience in business, Quillyn says, will ultimately help her become as successful as some of those who teach at the UO.

“The faculty members here are amazing,” she says. “These people have had really amazing distinguished careers. But more than that, they really care about helping students.”
