UO To Help Katrina-Affected Students

The University of Oregon is making plans to assist students who have been displaced by the effects of Hurricane Katrina.

"Our hearts go out to the victims of Hurricane Katrina," said John Moseley, senior vice president and provost. "The University of Oregon is ready to accommodate students who cannot get to campuses that have been devastated by the hurricane, as well as students who were planning to attend the University of Oregon and might encounter delays in traveling back to Eugene. "

College and university students displaced by the effects of Hurricane Katrina can seek admission to the University of Oregon. Moseley said the university will work to admit students affected by the hurricane on a provisional basis through fall term.

"The university will make every effort to accommodate the students affected by the hurricane and will work with each student individually to address their specific needs, including admission, academic and personal advising, course placement, housing and financial aid," Moseley said. "We expect that many of these students will want to return to the institutions where they originally enrolled as soon as possible. Those who are able to return to those institutions before the end of the term will receive tuition refunds."

Students affected by Hurricane Katrina who are interested in attending the University of Oregon, or are now interested in attending the university on a provisional basis during fall term, should contact the University of Oregon Office of Academic Advising at (541) 346-3211.
