Storm Cloud over the Alvord Desert
Rare summer storm clouds over southeastern Oregon's Alvord Desert dramatically reflect the sunset's glow. In summer, the cracked surface of the desert floor is smooth enough to drive on. The Alvord Desert lies at the base of Steens Mountain, the largest fault-block mountain in North America.
