African Languages at Oregon
Beginning in Fall 2006, students may enroll in first and second year Swahili as part of the UO's new World Languages Institute, WLI, which offers less commonly taught languages in a traditional 5 hours per week, 5 credit format. Swahili courses through WLI will satisfy the university's 2-year BA foreign language requirement.
The UO offers opportunities for self-study, with the assistance of native speakers, in a number of African languages.
We are pleased to offer new and expanded programs of study in Wolof and Bamana/Dyula under the auspices of our new Title VIa Department of Education grant.
Information is available from the Yamada Language Center; telephone (541) 346-4011.
