  • TEXT: "Calculus for Biology and Medicine," 2nd Ed., by Claudia Neuhauser, Chapters 2-5.
  • PREREQUISITES: Math 112 or satisfactory placement test score.
  • ATTENDANCE: Please remember that if you miss a class it is your responsibility to find out what happened in that class.

  • COURSE CONTENT: In Math 246 we study the following topics: Sequences, limits, differentiation and optimization. We will also cover many applications of these topics.
  • GRADING: Total 100 points. Will be based on:
  • HOMEWORK  (15%): Homework will be collected on Wednesdays. The first homework due on Wednesday October 8.  Late homework will not be accepted. I will choose a subset of the assigned problems to be graded. The lowest homework score will be dropped. You may collaborate with other class members on your homework, although you must each write up your solutions independently and in your own words. To avoid falling behind, you should do the reading and homework as the material is presented in class, rather than leaving it all until the last minute.
  • QUIZZES (15%) There will be short quizzes on Fridays unless told otherwise. They will be based on the material covered in the homework due that week.
  • MIDTERM 1 (20%) Tuesday October 21
  • MIDTERM 2 (20%) Tuesday November 18
  • FINAL EXAM (30%) Thursday December 11, 10:15-12:15.
  • REMARKS:  Problem solving sessions will be held on Tuesdays, Weeks 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10. You may have one card 3x5 inches with any formulas you wish during the quizzes, midterms and the final exam. You must bring photo ID to the midterms and the final.
