A motion to "declare a senate position vacant if a senate member is absent from three consecutive senate meetings,unless the member has declared to the secretary of the senate his or her intention to participate fully in the future" was passed.

The state of the University address reflected enrollment increasing to 17200 and average GPA 3.25. 1.7 million additional spent to hire new faculty. May be action on semester conversion. Need to expand library.

Greenfield and Roland Ball Paul Olum's address dealt with increasing enrollment (now at 17675), new faculty (80 new hires this fall), proceeding on semester conversion, new construction, capital campaign, portland center, new grievance procedures, faculty governance -- poor attendance, 2400 new students without new funds from state, problems with faculty salaries.
