David Li's research and teaching range from American to Asian literary and
cultural studies. Topics of interests include: Asian American Literature and
Culture; Race, Nation, and Multiculturalism; Transnational Chinese Cinema; and
Theories of Modernity and Globalization. He is the author of Imagining the
Nation: Asian American Literature and Cultural Consent (Stanford
University Press, 1998), which is now available in paperback. He is the guest
editor, most recently, of the special issue of Comparative Literature (Fall
2001), Globalization and the Humanities. The issue also includes his
own essay, "'What Will Happen to Us if We Don't Stop?' ERMO's China and
the End of Globalization," gleaned from his book in progress tentatively
entitled, The Thrill and Terror of Choice: Modernity, Globality and Sinic
Sinema.
