Many different types of hangers appeared in popular magazines after 1900. The "Pearl Suit and Skirt Hanger" first appeared in The Delineator in 1900 and proved to be one of the most innovative. The design of this hanger acknowledged the complexity of early twentieth-century attire by providing space for both components of ladies' or gentlemens' more formal suit attire. The wire used to create the "Pearl Suit and Skirt Hanger" twisted and stretched out side to side to support the shoulders of a suit coat. Then it twisted down and stretched out to the sides, forming a second tier for securing the waist of a skirt or trousers.
