Pantries often incorporated different kinds of storage. In this example, cold storage is provided by a built-in refrigerator. Ice blocks used to cool the stored food could be replenished by a delivery person through a door in the exterior wall. Across the room, a built-in kitchen "dresser" provided storage space for tableware such as dishes and silver. In this case, little, if any, workspace is provided inside the pantry itself.
