Since pantries were often located next to dining rooms, special devices were sometimes employed to move food-filled plates to the dining room unobtrusively. A lazy Susan mounted in the wall, such as the one shown here, could turn to provide this kind of effortless service. Dirty plates could be returned to the pantry with the same ease at the end of a meal.
