In addition to bookcase units, other types of storage functions could be served by integrating other types of stackable units with the bookcases. Globe-Wernicke manufactured a desk unit that took the place of two bookcase units within the elastic system. The desk unit contained pigeonholes for storing the supplies needed for correspondence or note taking. Its hinged door folded down instead of up to create a writing surface.
