Less permanent materials could also create a cold closet in a basement. This room was made out of rough lumber, insulating board and roofing felt to provide a vapor barrier. A cold air duct was inserted into an existing window opening, reducing the admission of light. A milk can is used to store root vegetables and shallow wood shelves sized for quart-sized canning jars create specialized environments.
