In
the spring of 2004, the BRT Administrative group laid the
foundation for a BRT Volunteer Corps. The volunteers will
ensure the the ability of the BRT to outreach to the entire
campus community and also broaden the members of our community
that are invested in social justice efforts. When implemented
this group will enable the Bias Response Team to increase
the speed of response to incidents of Bias, expand the scope
of outreach programming, broaden awareness of the BRT through
volunteer/acquaintance/community relationships, and provide
training to individuals interested in creating safe and welcoming
communities.
Each BRT volunteer will attend a two hour training. At the
training topics will be covered including how to answer questions
from community members, what to do after becoming aware of
a bias incident and opportunties and expectations while at
BRT outreach events. The training will ensure that a volunteer
is comfortable talking to community members as part of an
outreach team or even in one-on-one opportunties.
A BRT volunteer is not required to fulfill a quota of hours,
but we do ask that if available, a volunteer be willing to
help. Some volunteer shifts may be as short as 15 minutes!
If you are interested, please contact Chicora Martin at 346-1134,
or Kimi Mojica at 346-1139. You may also email the BRT at
