Set Mark...

Setting a mark in Epidemiology is like placing a bookmark on a page in a book. Once a mark has been set, you will be able to return to that particular spot any time you wish.

To set a mark, choose the ėSet Mark...î command from the Mark menu. A dialog box will appear with the text ėPlease name mark:î A name will already be there: ėMark 1î, for example. You may move your mouse to click on this space and type in a new name. When you are finished entering the name of the mark, click on the OK button, or press the return or enter key on your keyboard. If you decide you donít want to set the mark, use your mouse to click on the "Never Mind" button in the dialog box.

Go to Mark

After you have set a mark in a run of the simulation, you can restore the run of the simulation to the state it was in when you set the mark. Choose "Go to Mark" from the Mark menu. From the hierarchical menu, select the mark that you wish to go to.

Before the program goes to the mark, it will ask you whether you want to save the current state of the simulation (the state before you go to the mark).

If you click on the Save button, it is the same as placing a mark at the current state of the simulation before going to the mark. In fact, the mark it places is called ėCurrent state at:nî, where n is the number of the current time before the simulation goes to the mark. The current state mark will show up in the ėGo toî and ėDeleteî lists, so you can treat it like any other mark. Type a new name for this current state mark, if you want. Click on the OK button.

Epidemiology will go to the mark you requested.

Rename Mark

If you decide you change the name of a mark that you have previously set, choose "Rename Mark" from the Mark menu. From the hierarchical menu, select the mark that you wish to rename. A window will appear, asking you to enter the new name for the mark.

Delete Mark

If you decide you no longer need a mark that you have previously set , you can remove the mark. Choose "Delete Mark" from the Mark menu. From the hierarchical menu, select the mark that you wish to delete. A window will appear, asking you to confirm that you want to delete the mark. If not, click on the Cancel button. Otherwise, click on the Delete button. The mark you selected will be removed.

Order Mark List...

When marks are created, they are always placed at the bottom of the list of marks which determines where they appear in the various hierarchical menus. Use this command to alter the order of that list. This can be useful when creating files for student use or for presentation (e.g., when you wish to have the marks in the menu appear in the order that they will be used rather than in the order they were created).

In Java Epidemiology 1.0, this menu item appears grayed out, because we have not yet implemented this function.

Notes

In versions of Epidemiology for the Macintosh, you could enter notes to keep track of some information about the marks you had created. This has not yet been implemented for Java Epidemiology .
