Instructors wishing to improve their background in epidemiology can consult numerous textbooks dealing with medical microbiology or specifically with epidemiology. A recent textbook in epidemiology is:

An entertaining and informative non-technical book that could be useful to faculty and to students is:

Most of these books, however, do not deal with models of the spread of disease. Some newer ecology textbooks include introductions to epidemiological modelling or other aspects of disease ecology.
