Volunteer Opportunities
Brain and Behavior Lab
Brain wave (EEG/ERP) research opportunities. The Brain and Behavior Laboratory at CFC is looking for reliable, dedicated, and detail-oriented volunteers to help conduct laboratory research on attention and self-regulation in children and teens (ages 7–17 years) using electroencephalography (EEG) and event-related potential (ERP) techniques. For additional information, requirements, and an application, please email Kristi Racer at kdhiatt@uoregon.edu.
Child and Family Center Clinic
The CFC uses volunteers to help staff our clinic in the evenings. People who are working in volunteer/practicum/work study positions help with a variety of tasks, including childcare, reception, filing, clinic organization, and making parent daily report phone calls. In addition, many special projects take place throughout the year that volunteers help with. If you are interested in gaining experience working in a therapy clinic, please contact Sebrina Doyle-Schultz at sanders4@uoregon.edu.
The Community Shadow Project
The Community Shadow Project puts volunteers to work in our Eugene office to help with various tasks including filing, data checking, copying, and mailing. Although our demand for volunteers varies with our assessment schedule, volunteers are especially helpful when we are conducting our larger assessments. During these time periods the amount of information flowing into our Eugene office rises significantly, as does the opportunity to lend a helping hand. If you are interested in volunteering for the Community Shadow Project, please contact E.J. Miller at ejmiller@uoregon.edu.
Early Steps Project
The Early Steps Project uses volunteers to help complete data collection from families we have been working with for more than five years. We work with families with young children to assess and prevent negative outcomes in children, such as behavioral problems and substance use/abuse. We observe in the home and in other contexts such as schools, after-school care settings, and neighborhoods. As part of our team, volunteers spend time in families’ homes videotaping parent–child activities and providing child care, and perform live coding in neighborhoods. There is ample opportunity to work on other supporting aspects of the project, such as data checking and subject tracking. We require a minimum six-month commitment. If you are interested , please contact Kori Wanner at 346-2823 or kwanner@uoregon.edu.
Observational Data Coding
View family interactions and code behavior observation data at CFC! We need volunteers who are interested in flexible hours and valuable hands-on research experience coding both video and audio assessments. Credit is available for undergraduate students who can commit to a three-term internship. Hourly pay may be offered to volunteers who are fluent in Spanish, or to those who continue working beyond their three-term commitment. Information, requirements, and an application are available by emailing Jenene Peterson at jenene@uoregon.edu.
