Burning Man 1997

Absolutely the most intense experience of life that I can remember at the moment, except the afterburn once what I became got back to Eugene. For a day-to-day account of my perceptions, go here.

So I took some pictures like a tourist, so what? I got some of Mikel being interviewed by Paramount. Man, the media was everywhere! Anyways, here are some pics as I saw them.

The Fire approached the soul from all sides, entered and descended to the core, then expanded, flared to engulf and burn and purge.

Some quotes from satisfied participants:

"It's the safest place I've ever been."
- Kaiser Blade

"I travelled to the desert for a cleansing of soul, an attempt to banish the pursuing demons. In swirling dust and raging fire I found blessed release from this physical form. For a time, I found myself a part rather than apart. In the thunder of drums I resonated with the crashing, roaring Man."
- Smile Fades Quickly

"Lots of fire. Not enough weapons. I hate lava."
- Phodder
