Native American Millenium Dialouge Series: The Third Millenium Dialogue is coming soon. Winnona LaDuke will be presenting her work with the White Earth project and sharing some information about the role of a Native woman in American politics.The CICS has created a speakers forum called the Millenium Dialogues aimed at informing local community and students about what is taking place throughout Inidan Country. The Dialogues are held in the University of Oregon longhouse which provides the opportunity to interact with the community in a personal and comfortable atmoshpere. The first Millenium Dialogue took place in Oct. 2000, and featured a panel of Oregon Native leaders from tribes across the state. The focus was "Oregon Tribal Peoples and Cultural Survival". The second Millenium Dialoge took place on Nov. 8, 2000 and featured Charles Wilkinson, a prominent scholar of American Indian law, and Billy Frank, a northwest native and leader in the fiht ot protect salmon and our natural environments. The focus of the second Millenium was "Environmental Survival", specifically the role of the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commision and American Indian law as it pertains to environmental sustainability and recovery.
