Miriam McFall Starlin
Poetry Award

Each year the Department of Creative Writing at the University of Oregon awards the Miriam McFall Starlin Poetry Award to an outstanding student of poetry.  This recognition honors a promising first-year poet with a $5,000 stipend, offering the freedom to pursue writing in the summer between the first and second years in the MFA program. The award was established in 1997 by the late Glenn Starlin as a gift to his wife, Miriam.

Miriam Starlin has been reading and writing poetry her entire life, beginning as a girl after her bedtime—using a flashlight under the covers.  Her first volume of poems, Wait a Minute, was published in 2006.
