Teaching Fellowships
The Creative Writing Program attempts to fund all admitted students with Graduate Teaching Fellowships (GTFs). The program awards most first-year M.F.A. students with GTFs teaching in the Kidd Tutorial Program or teaching undergraduate intro courses in fiction or poetry. Students with GTFs receive full tuition waivers, monthly stipends, and health coverage.

To be considered for a GTF, applicants must complete and submit the Application for Graduate Teaching Fellowship. Previous teaching experience is not required for the GTF appointments. However, applicants will need to demonstrate their probable success as a first-time teacher through their application materials and letters of recommendation.

Other Department Fellowships
MFA applicants who have previous experience teaching college-level expository writing may apply to teach English composition through the English Department. A limited number of appointments can be made for first-year MFA students, with renewal for a second year possible, based on satisfactory performance. New MFA students who want to be considered for such English Department appointments should declare their interest in writing and include descriptions of prior teaching, with evaluations and letter(s) of recommendation from teaching supervisors in their application packet. Students without prior teaching experience may become eligible for a GTF appointment teaching English Composition in their second year by taking English 611 (Fall term) and English 613 (Winter or Spring) during their first year.

Other Financial Aid
Information about additional financial aid, such as student loans, grants, and work study, is available through the Office of Financial Aid, Oregon Hall, University of Oregon, Eugene, OR 97403. Inquire early, as many national deadlines are in February.
