Exam Adjustments

student taking notes

Exam procedures may be modified to meet your particular needs. Accommodations may include additional testing time, audiotaped answers, having someone write your answers as you dictate them, large print or electronic test format, or taking the test in a quiet location.

Instructors must be informed early in the term if exam accommodations are needed. Students must present the notification letter from DS to their instructors in the first 2 weeks of the term. Some instructors may be able to provide exam accommodations, such as giving exams in their offices and allowing extended time. If an instructor is unable to do so, DS will administer the exam with accommodations. Students are responsible for requesting this arrangement.

To request and arrange for exam accommodations, students need to be on file with Disability Services.  To schedule exams with accommodations, submit an exam accommodation request form a minimum of 5 days before the exam date.

Please read and follow the steps below if you need to schedule an exam through Disability Services.

1) Meet with instructor to determine if the in-class exam conditions will be suitable.

2) If the in-class exam conditions will not be suitable, ask instructor if she or he can make alternative arrangements.

3) If instructor is unable to make other exam arrangements, submit electronic scheduling request to Disability Services. Before submitting, you must confirm the following details with your instructor for each exam:

a) exam date

b) exam time

c) method of exam delivery and return

d) use of materials

4) Submit one electronic request form per exam which is different from the paper forms on which you could list multiple exams per class. Please note the importance of submitting your requests as early as possible! In most cases you should be able to submit your requests for the entire term in the second week.  We will not be able to respond to schedule requests submitted less than 5 business days prior to the exam date.

5) After the electronic request is submitted, Disability Services will review the information. If there are inaccuracies or problems with the request, Disability Services will contact you. If the request is clear and complete, Disability Services will send a confirmation e-mail to you and your instructor verifying exam arrangements.
