The Panare (Cariban of Venezuela)

The Panare   (eñapa; ca. 2,500 speakers, Cariban) live in the central savanah-area of Venezuela, south of the Orinoco River.  For decades, the Panare have traded with Spanish-speaking mestizos, but but appear to be tenaciously hanging on to their heritage language.
