I received a B.S. in Physics and a B.S. in Mathematics at the University of Puget Sound (UPS) in Tacoma, WA in 2004. I have upgraded to slightly-more-sunny Eugene, OR where I am currently a graduate student at the University of Oregon seeking a Ph.D. in physics. My experimental investigations focus on the thermoelectric properties of semiconductor nanowires. See my physics section for more information.
I grew up in Wyoming experiencing rural life and learning to appreciate salt of the Earth people. In my high school years I spent as much time as possible in the Big Horn Mountains. Growing up in Sheridan, Wyoming is like having the 1.5 million-acre Big Horn National Forest as your backyard. Though the Big Horns are not as grand as the Tetons, there is much to be said about uncrowded wilderness.
I met many amazing people between the age of 18 and 22. For example, Jack Hays will always hold a special place in my heart. My undergraduate education at UPS afforded me some sailing time with my physics professor on the Puget Sound. On the other hand, small liberal arts school cannot support much summer research. Instead, I participated in the physics REU program at the University of Colorado in Boulder during the summer of 2002 and the NNUN REU program at the University of California, Santa Barbara during the summer of 2003. I met some very nice people during those two internships; Jing Xu tops the list.
