Interests include Chaucer, Middle English romance, Middle English dialects, American detective fiction. Honors: Arts and Sciences Distinguished Educator Award, 1999; Burlington Northern Foundation Faculty Achievement Award for Teaching Excellence, 1987; University of Oregon Ersted Award for Distinguished Teaching, 1977.
