How to make a podcast movie on your PC!
Software needed:
Powerpoint
Avid Free DV (download here)
Windows Movie Maker (should come with your computer)
Quicktime (to watch the movie)
THE RUNDOWN: PART 1: USING WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER
1.) When your powerpoint is complete go to file<save as and name your file. Before pressing “save” there should be a little bar menu underneath where you put in your file name. Scroll down and find the .jpeg extension. Now save. It will ask you if you want to apply this to all the slides. Say yes.
2.) Open up Windows Movie Maker. Next drag and drop the saved jpgs into the movie maker.
3.) Next drag all of your slides into the time line below. Make sure it’s show the timeline. If not click on the button that says “show timeline)
4.) Once all of your slides are in order you are ready to record. Click on the microphone icon.
5.) A window will pop up and when you are ready to record press “start narrartion”.
6.) This is where it gets a little tricky as by default the slides only will show for 5 seconds. But if you go to the border of the slides you can stretch them out for as long as you want.
You can record in 2 ways
· You can record your whole narration in one recording and readjust your slides to match what your saying when you play it back.
· Or you can record a narration for each slide by clicking on the slide
Remember to move the blue bar on the time line to where you want to start recording.
7.) After you are done recording it will ask you to save the audio file. Save it and then on the side in the little video player, play it back and fine tune the slides to match your narration.
8.) To save the movie, go to file<save movie file and select the “My computer” option and the press next.
9.) This screen will pop up and you will want to have it the way I set it up in the picture. First, select “show more choices” to get the extra choices. Click on "other settings" and choose DV-AVI and then press next and continue to save.
THE RUNDOWN: PART 2
10.) Now open up Avid free DV and click ok for everything until you get to the main screen. Go to file<new bin.
11.) Click on the window that says “super bin” and then go back to file<import and find your movie.
12.) Once you find your movie, click okay and then go back to the “super bin” window and you’ll see the name of your movie. Double click on the little film strip icon next to the name twice and another window should pop up.
13.) Next, click on the screen that popped up (it should be your first slide) and then go to file<export.
14.) Before you save your file, click on the options buttons.
15.) Set up the next screen like I have it:
16.) Next click the “format options” button, press “settings” and set it up like so:
17.) Click okay then click on “size” and set it to 640*480 VGA and press ok.
18.) Keep pressing okay You’ll be back at the export settings screen and all you have to do is click save and you got your movie!
The final product should something like this:

It takes some messing around with a few buttons here and there but it's really simple once you get the hang of it.
