Rest: Give the sprain time to heal, until the swelling and pain have subsided
Ice: Ice the wrist 15-20 minutes as soon as possible, and several times throughout the first 48 hours
Compression: Wrap the wrist to decrease swelling with an ace bandage. This should be done in the following way; start the
bandage at the base of the fingers and continue up to the elbow. It is important to wrap the bandage snug
enough to compress and reduce swelling but not tight enough to hinder proper blood flow to the hand.
Elevation: The injured wrist should, as often as possible, be elevated above the heart to reduce swelling in the first 48 hours.
If pain and swelling persist for more than 48 hours see a doctor.
