ORIENTATION ASSESSMENT

ACCEPTABLE EVIDENCE FOR ACCOMPLISHMENT OF GOALS

 

Goal 1:  Building Community

 

   1.  All participants are engaged in interactions within and between teams during scheduled activities and during informal discussions.

    2.  Participants report that they are developing a sense of “community” on the orientation evaluation form.

    3.  All teams continue as participants in the FIRST project.

 

Goal 2:  Explanation of FIRST Goals and Objectives

 

   1.  Participants report that the facilitators were effective in communicating the FIRST goals.

    2.  The proposed actions of each team reflect the FIRST goals.

 

Goal 3:  Developing Your Project

 

    1.  Each group produces a list of curriculum needs at their home institution.

    2.  Each group drafts a mission statement for their team’s curriculum reform project.

    3.   Each group outlines an action plan for development of the plan at
their home institution.

    4.  Participants report that they have a tentative plan(s) for curriculum reform at their home institution on the orientation evaluation form.

 

Goal 4:  Sharing of Ideas and Resources

 

    1.  All participants exchange information on known professional organizations that focus on curricular issues, sources for inquiry-based activities, relevant discussion groups, etc.

   2.  Each team develops methods for ensuring that communication and “community” is maintained with the team.

    3.  A method(s) for communication among members of all teams is established and teams collectively ensure that “regional community” is maintained.  This will include use of a FIRST e-mail address based at MSU and the FIRST web-page at HBS.

    4.  Participants report that sufficient communication plans are (or will be) in place to sustain and encourage interactions within and between teams in the future.
