Master Degree Requirements
- Required minimum GPA 3.00
- Minimum thesis credits (if thesis is required) 9 credits
- Time limit for program completion 7 years
- Total credit minimum 45 credits
- Minimum graded credit in residence 24 credits
- Minimum 600-level credits in residence 9 credits
- Registration minimum per term 3 credits
- Minimum credits in residence 30 credits
- Minimum credits in major 30 credits
Additional Human Physiology Master Degree Requirements
COURSEWORK
The program of study is determined separately for each student by a committee
consisting of the student and two faculty members. The program must incorporate three
four-credit courses within each area of concentration within the Department of Human
Physiology. Areas include biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor control, and sports medicine.
FINAL REQUIREMENT
Department faculty, in consultation with student, determine which option meets requirement:
- Thesis (program or graduate school)
- Published Research Paper
- Research Project
- Comprehensive Exam
Students are required to complete a ‘Master of Science Program of Study’ form to be on file within the HPHY Office prior to second term of study. Download this, and other forms, by going to the Graduate Studies Forms section of this website.
DEADLINES
- Comprehensive Examination Application: Friday of first week of term exam is taken.
- Apply for Advanced Degree: Week TWO of graduating term. (Apply online via GradWeb.)
- Final Copy Abstract (Grad School Thesis Only): Submit three copies (with Certificate of Completion) to Graduate School by week FIVE of graduating term.
Doctoral Degree Requirements
The doctoral degree program consists of a minimum of 135 credits beyond the bachelor’s degree; at least 60 of
these credits must be completed with human physiology courses.
Written and oral doctoral comprehensive examinations are taken after completing a substantial portion of the
program of study. Upon passing these examinations the student is advanced to candidacy and may enroll in
Dissertation (HPHY 603). A final oral defense is held after completion of the dissertation and after all
other degree requirements have been met.
DEADLINES
- Apply for Degree: Friday of week TWO of term graduating.
- Last day to file application for final oral defense: Friday of week FIVE of term graduating, or no less than 3 weeks before the Dissertation Defense Date, whichever comes first. Must be filed along with 3 signed and 2 unsigned copies of abstract in the Graduate School. (Note: MUST be Filed in the Graduate School 3 Weeks Before the Defense Date.)
- Last day to hold Final Oral Defense: Friday of week EIGHT of term graduating.
- Last day to deposit 2 copies of completed and approved dissertation for Final Acceptance by Graduate School: Tuesday of week TEN of term graduating.
