Dr. Andrew Lovering earned a B.S. in Biology from Texas Tech University in 1995. He received his Ph.D. in physiology from Texas Tech University School of Medicine in 2003. He was a postdoctoral fellow in the Rankin Laboratory of Pulmonary Medicine (University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health) before he joined the Department of Human Physiology at the University of Oregon in 2007.
Dr. Lovering wants to know how the cardiopulmonary and respiratory systems accommodate the demands of exercise and/or hypoxia at high altitude. Projects include: 1) understanding pulmonary gas exchange in health and disease during exercise 2) elucidating the mechanism(s) mediating the opening and closure of inducible intrapulmonary arteriovenous shunts in healthy humans and 3) determining cardiopulmonary interactions in individuals with lung disease and cardiac defects. His research is currently funded by the Oregon Health Sciences University Medical Research Foundation, the American Heart Association, and an Alberta Health Services Emerging Teams Grant. Please see his laboratory website for more information.
