2008-9 Tzedek Professor in the Humanities

Dr. Edward Tick

"War and the Soul: Healing our Veterans, Families, and Communities from the Wounds of War”

Dr. Edward Tick is a practicing psychotherapist who has worked with veterans with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) for more than 30 years. For Tick, the key to helping veterans heal lies in how we understand PTSD, which he defines as an identity disorder resulting from the deep trauma of war. Tick is the founder of Soldier’s Heart, a non-profit veterans’ advocacy and safe-return program. His clinical practice and his work with Soldier’s Heart are the basis for his recent book, War and the Soul: Healing Our Nation’s Veterans from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (2005).Dr. Tick will be accompanied by Dr. John W. Fisher, a Viet Nam vet who works with Soldier's Heart.
