IRB Members and IRB Deadlines

The Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects is comprised of two Panels: the Social/Behavioral Panel (Panel #1) and the Biomedical Panel (Panel #2).

The Social/Behavioral Panel is primarily concerned with projects involving social and behavioral research (e.g., Psychology, Sociology, Education, Political Science, Anthropology, etc.) This panel reviews projects that include non-medical procedures such as surveys, interviews, cognitive/motivational tests, moderate exercise, muscular strength testing, MRI or EEG for non-medical purposes, post-medical procedures cleared by an M.D., and non-invasive DNA sampling (cheek swab, hair, saliva, etc.). The Biomedical Panel is reserved for projects that involve medical procedures and/or the biomedical sciences (e.g., Human Physiology). It reviews projects that include blood draws, X-ray or DEXA scanns, IV work, needle sticks, nerve blocks, MRI or EEG for medical purposes, pre-medical treatment or procedures, and invasive DNA sampling (venipuncture, etc.).
