8:10-8:55 am Lee Ayers (SOU) presented the IFS President's Report. She thanked Peter Gilkey and John Nicols for arranging the meeting this time. She noted that the board will begin Presidential reviews for all OUS institution that have Presidents. She felt that there was a great IFS coffee before the beginning of the OUS Board Meeting on Friday morning. The coffee time is from 7am to 8am to make sure that board members and faculty can attend.
President Ayers noted that the IFS needs to take some defining policy on what we want to do. We need some clarity on what we want to do. Sometimes we are an after-the-fact reviewer. That really has not happened on the new High School Diploma process as it has been in the past. It was suggested that the IFS meetings make formal clear statements about the concerns and decision about every item that comes to the IFS. A resolution was made by Joanne Sorte and second by Craig Wollner that the IFS as a group operate in such a manner that as items and issues come before our body, we implement policy whereby we have closure to issues through statements or motions. Motion passed unanimously
8:55-9:55 am Mina Carson presented the Provost Council Report to the IFS. She noted that the Learning Outcomes & Assessments taskforce is headed by Elizabeth Zinzer. There was a discussion about where each campus is on this project. The taskforce will review the various campuses on this issue. Mina has a list of committee members. IFS has been request to provide someone who will participate on this taskforce. Lee Ayers has volunteered to be the IFS representative. Bob Turner will be working on the Voluntary System of Accountability report that was passed out to IFS members. We, as faculty and IFS members, need to pay very close attention to the Learning Outcomes listed in the VAS report. There is a strong push toward accountability with the board and legislators. Legislators may use the outcomes and proof of the outcomes as basis for funding. The IFS recommends that we insure that the outcomes and assessments be structured to each individual campus and disciplines.
9:55-10:30 am There was a discussion on who should be present at the Saturday IFS meetings.
A related item was then discussed:
10:55-11:08 Maureen Sevigny, (OIT) presented the JBAC Report (Joint Boards Articulation Committee) General Education outcomes still undecided. Alignment of AAOT (looks at credits) with OTM (looks at courses) still being considered, which one will change with be a big discussion in the future. Potential review group for transferring of specific classes. She requested the IFS members to email her (Maureen Sevigny (OIT)) by Feb 25th whether they prefered alignment through credit or courses.
The campus reports were then presented.
