Definitions

Student Data

Total SCH-Total 3 term student credit hours generated by departments, schools or colleges.  
Does not include self-support credit hours.

Lower division SCH-Total 3 term student credit hours for lower division courses, based on 
course number. (Courses in 100 and 200 series)

Upper division SCH-Same as for lower division, except course numbers are in 300-400 
series.

Total Undergrad SCH-Total of lower division and upper division SCH

Grad SCH-3 term total based on graduate course level designation

Gen Ed SCH- Sum of credit hours taught  in all courses meeting general education 
requirements.  This does not differentiate students using the credit hours for general 
education requirements from other students enrolled.  This number is not calculated for all 
years.

% Resident SCH-% Undergraduate student credit hours taken by resident students.

% NR SCH- % Undergraduate student credit hours taken by non-resident students.

Weighted student FTE-Calculated based on enrollments by student level.  Calculated as 
Undergrad SCH/45 plus graduate students/36 plus Law SCH/28.

Undergraduate degrees granted-Total degrees for year, including those awarded during 
summer session.

Graduate degrees granted-Total including summer session.

Average credits at degrees-Based on University of Oregon credits earned by students 
awarded undergraduate degree in department.

Undergrad Majors-Number of students declaring department as academic major, during fall 
term of year under consideration.

Undergrad 1-4 Majors-Number of students declaring department as any of first four 
academic majors.  This is a convention used by the Registrar's Office in the Profile of 
Students.

New Grad Majors-First time graduate students by department (information provided by 
Graduate School).

Total Grad Majors-Total declared grad majors during fall term.

Faculty Data
Tenure/tenure track FTE-Total at year-end based on contract type and paid on general fund 
accounts.

GTFs-Total at year end.  General fund only.

Other Instructional FTE-Total at year-end of all other academic employees with instructional 
appointments, except as categorized elsewhere.  General fund only.

Endowment, ICC, C of E, Lottery FTE-Faculty paid from these fund sources.

Total Instructional FTE-Sum of above. 

Financial Data  (from OUS Controller's Office reports through 1994, and from UO FIS after 
1994).  

Instructional Expenditures-Total fiscal year expenditures from general fund sources for the 
instructional program.  These do not include ASA expenditures, educational technology 
expenditures paid from resource fees or expenditures of summer session dividends.  They  
do include expenditures of endowment income and fee income which support the 
instructional program.


Academic Support Expenditures-The department’s prorated share of dean’s office 
expenditures.  These are prorated to departments based on total instructional expenditures 
in each department.

ICC Expenditures- Expenditures of ICC dollars returned to the department.

Total Unit Expenditures-Total of instructional, academic support and ICC expenditures.

Instructional salaries-Total unclassified salary expenditures.  Does not include OPE.

GTF Salaries-For general fund positions only.

Institutional overhead-Prorated share (based on unit expenditures) of university expenditure 
for academic support, institutional support, student services and library.

External Funding  (Information from Grants and Contracts, UO Foundation and Controller's 
Reports as appropriate).   

Foundation Disbursements-Annual amounts transferred to departments through the 
university cashier or paid directly by the foundation on behalf of the department.

Endowment Income-Includes state match.

Research Support-Based on yearly expenditures.   Does not include amounts transferred 
from the Foundation.

ICC-Indirect cost recovery generated by grants awarded to faculty in department.  This is the 
total recovery, whether or not it is allocated to the department.

Lottery and C of E-Non-recurring state funding for special programs.

Tuition Revenue 

Undergraduate Revenue-Calculated assuming all resident undergraduate student credit 
hours reported are paid at full tuition.

Graduate Revenue-Including state supported fee remissions.  This is a calculated except in 
the Law School which has its own revenue accounts.

Resource Fees-Fees received from students in specific academic programs (Law and 
Business)

Other Income-Including course fees.

SCH per Faculty FTE- Total SCH / Tenure & Tenure track faculty FTE. 

SCH per teaching FTE - Total SCH / all instructional faculty including GTFs

Instructional Cost per SCH-Instructional costs/Total SCH

Cost per SCH - Total costs / Total SCH

Fac Salary per SCH - Instructional salaries / Total SCH

State $s per SCH- (Total costs * % of state dollars in general funds) / Total SCH

% Lower div SCH - Lower division SCH / Total SCH

% Upper div SCH - Upper division SCH / Total SCH

% NR UG SCH - Non resident undergrad SCH / Total undergrad SCH
