The motivations behind the compilation of this admittedly rudimentary and sparse site are threefold.
First, I've always been interested in my heritage, my ancestry. And although I do have some anecdotal and biographical information about the Flecks from conversations with my parents and grandparents, no members of my family from the "old country" and few first-generation American Flecks are left alive. So I'm trying to gather as much info as possible while the resources are still available. Hopefully, this site will provide a repository for whatever info I can gather.
Additionally, I became enamoured of the American Family Immigration History Center (the Ellis Island Archives Website) immediately upon its going online. My early research resulted in immigration records and passenger manifest copies for several of my ancestors. This was my initial and most logical motivation for the site, as it provides the best forum possible for the sharing of that info and those documents.
Lastly, well before the opening of the AFIHC online archives, I had discovered two excellent online resources for research into my family and, more typically, information about their homeland: the website of the Männer-Gesangsverein 'Eintracht' Riedlingsdorf, the Riedlingsdorf Men's Choir; and the Burgenland Bunch website. I won't go into detail here -- you'll have to explore them for yourself. But both sites contain a wealth of genealogical, historical, pictorial and anecdotal information about Burgenland and Riedlingsdorf, past and present. Check them out thoroughly.
Given my own lack of skills, imagination, and consistency, this does not promise to be the mother of all websites -- not even a particularly good homepage. But I will attempt to keep it updated and changing. Please help me to do so by submitting your suggestions, additions, corrections, and requests.
