Licancabur

Bolivia

Heading farther south, I made an easy day in Bolivia, only hitting three peaks. There has been a lot to volcanic activity in this area lately, resulting in changed landscapes. My first stop was Licancabur, which stands at 19,422 feet. It is a stratovolcano which has been dormant for quite awhile. The lake in the crater of Licancabur is "the highest lake in the world."
Sajama My next stop I wanted to go to the highest place in all of Boliva, that took me to Nevado Sajama, left. It stands at 21,463 feet. Sajama is an extinct stratovolcano. Sajama has lava domes made up of andesite and rhyodacte.
Parinacota Parinacota, another stratovolcano, was my last stop in Boliva. The eruption at occured at Parinacota 8,000 years ago produced Lake Chungara.
